THE PROJECT

In 2015, the Down Syndrome Resource Foundation developed a survey in collaboration with the University of British Columbia and physicians from BC Children’s Hospital. Through the participation of parents and caregivers, the objective of the survey was to highlight the central needs of children and adults living with Down syndrome. In 2016, a second survey was conducted amongst Canadian physicians and resident doctors; this survey aimed to uncover the informational gaps, which are experienced by medical professionals who provide care to individuals with Down syndrome.

The two surveys yielded overwhelming results, and were successful in highlighting the need for a comprehensive digital resource dedicated solely to Down syndrome.

THE PRODUCT

In response to the needs identified in the 2015 and 2016 surveys—the website, Down Syndrome Care Hub, was developed. As part of a team comprised of physicians, researchers and designers—the goal when developing Down Syndrome Care Hub was to create a comprehensive online resource, in order to support the parents/caregivers and health care providers of individuals with Down syndrome. The website serves to translate years’ worth of complex medical and care information, into a single online “hub” that is accessible and engaging for its user groups.
