THE PROJECT
Located at Beach Grove Elementary School in sunny Tsawwassen, British Columbia—Sandpiper Preschool boasts a warm and inviting, play-based environment, where creativity and self-confidence are fostered. Sandpiper Preschool required a website, which would serve as an all-in-one digital resource for the teachers and parents of current and prospective preschoolers.
THE PRODUCT
The result is a website that captures the warmth, creativity, and playfulness, which are central to the learning environment at Sandpiper Preschool. Through the use of playful and distinctive typographical elements, and a vibrant, yet scholastic colour palette—the site marries functionally, with a visual design that honors the spirit of play-based-learning.

INFORMATION ARCHITECTURE
Through a series of discussions with the client, I was able to establish an understanding of the key pages needed for the new website, along with their relative contents. Next, I began the process of mapping out the information architecture. This would ensure that all elements for the website were captured, labeled and organized within an intuitive structure.

LOW-FIDELITY WIREFRAMES
Equipped with a clear organizational structure, I began to visualize ideas for the website layout—in the form of rapid, iterative, low-fidelity wireframes. Throughout this process, I had several check-ins with the client, in order to gain early feedback regarding potential design decisions—before committing to higher fidelity mockups.

MID-FIDELITY WIREFRAMES
After reviewing the most recent iterations of the low-fidelity wireframes with the client, I was able to narrow down a layout, and gain the feedback necessary to move forward with mid-fidelity wireframes. Throughout this stage, it became clear that certain components of the layout would need to be revised, in order to better suit pages of the website that were lighter in content. While making these adjustments, I continued to provide frequent updates to the client, to ensure that we remained aligned on the direction of the project.

UI STYLE GUIDE
To ensure consistency across the visual design of the Sandpiper Preschool website, I created a UI style guide. This document includes essential UI components such as, colour palettes, fonts, buttons, icons and text fields, which are used throughout the website. In developing the UI style guide, I was able to streamline my process—by preventing inconsistencies and reducing the need for design decisions while working.

CHALLENGES & WHAT I LEARNED
Given the relatively short time frame of this project, I found that my greatest challenge was to develop a visual identity with no existing design assets for Sandpiper Preschool. Through the completion of this project, I was able to strengthen my abilities involving communication and time allocation. It was integral for the success of this project to receive early-stage feedback, and to maintain regular client reviews throughout the design process. In doing so, I was able to establish a strong understanding of the client’s needs and vision, and to iterate more rapidly on concepts for the website.
